Somehow, I never got around to posting this photo of an ovenbird in our backyard that triggered a rare bird alert on eBird back during the #snowstorm. While South Carolina is not outside its range, this species typically is only present during migration. However, we’ve had a January/February visitor at our feeder for the past seven or eight years. He has an unusual, forward-leaning walk Debi and I call “churchilling” because we imagine it looks like the way Winston Churchill would have walked.

This little fella showed up on our driveway this weekend, pecking around for a meal. We’ve seen golden-crowned kinglets before, but this was the first time we’ve seen one in our property. (And we’ve probably observed about 65 species in or from our yard through the years.)

Welp, I’ve finally finished reviewing and processing photos from the trip @debi.kidd and I took to #yellowstonenationalpark and #grandtetonnationalpark in early June. Let the photo deluge begin.

I’ll start with a mishap. My Canon 18-135mm kit lens — the one with the circular polarization filter I brought specifically to cut the glare and see to the bottom of these clear Teton lakes — crapped out on me the day before we made it to #sunrise at the noted #schwabacherlanding. I did the best I could with an iPhone. Disappointing, but not a total loss, I suppose.
